Professional Standard Framework

The Professional Standard Framework wants to clarify the attributes and capabilities that must be demonstrated and maintained by specialists in veterinary dermatology.

It is recognised that a standard is set for the core competences, attributes and conduct of a certified dermatology specialist at completion of the training program. But expertise must continue to develop through lifelong learning after postgraduate training. So the standards at first certification (‘has demonstrated’) guide the training outcomes and assessment process, while the standards beyond first certification (continues to demonstrate’) guide the re-accreditation process. The proposed framework of a set of attributes & skills and associated competent actions thus distinguishes between the actions demonstrated at the point of certification, and those expected after conclusion of the training program when independent practice and autonomy is expected.
